Asia Cup Points Table 2023: Updated Standings After PAK vs NEP Match 1

The Asia Cup 2023 kick-started on a staggering note as the Pakistan Cricket Team put on a show and dominated the Nepal Team to kick-start the tournament on a high. They are now at the top of the table and the focus now shifts to the second game between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first. It wasn’t a great start for them as they lost Fakhar Zaman (14) and Imam-ul-Haq (5) early and were under pressure at 25/2. But after that skipper Babar Azam held the fort and along with Mohammad Rizwan (44) rescued his team’s innings. The duo stitched an 86-run partnership but after the latter’s wicket Agha Salman perished too and the hosts yet again came under pressure.

However, Babar Azam along with Iftikhar Ahmed then changed the complexion of the game as they both smashed centuries. While the skipper scored 151 runs, the latter scored an unbeaten 109 runs. Their magnificent effort helped Pakistan post a total of 342 runs on the board, which at one moment didn’t seem possible.

Pakistan bowlers were electric with the ball as Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah combined to pick three wickets in the first three overs. Aarif Sheikh (28) and Sompal Kami (28) tried to hold the fort but lost wickets at crucial junctures. After that spinners Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz too chipped in as Nepal fell like a pack of cards.

Pakistan bundled out Nepal for just 104 runs. Every bowler contributed with the ball with Shadab Khan being the pick of the bowlers with his figures of 4/27. They won the game by a massive margin of 238 runs and made sure they started the tournament on high.

After match 1 of the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan are at the top of the table in Group A with a gigantic NRR. Whereas Nepal after the massive loss have bagged a negative NRR. Group B remains nil so far.
