England Test skipper Ben Stokes feels that Ashes 2023 was something people couldn’t take their eyes off. Ashes 2023 concluded on Monday (July 31) and witnessed a nail-biting battle between England and Australia for the last six-seven weeks.

Ashes 2023 ended in a 2-2 draw and Australia managed to retain the Ashes 2023 urn. In the 5th Test at Kennington Oval, Ben Stokes-led England managed a stunning comeback with the bowl to bundle out Australia for 334-10 against a target of 384.

Even after a superb start with an opening stand of 140, Australia faced a batting collapse in the final session of Day 5. From 250-3 at one stage, Australia’s batters fell like a house of cards against England’s pace attack. In the end, England won by 49 runs to end the series in a draw.

Ashes 2023 Was Something You Couldn’t Take Your Eyes Off: Ben Stokes

During the post-match presentation, Ben Stokes termed Ashes 2023 as a thrilling encounter that entertained fans to the fullest. The England all-skipper said that Ashes 2023 was something people could not take their eyes off.

“The series is generally what Test cricket needed: two high-quality teams going toe-to-toe for six or seven weeks. The cricket that’s been played has been something that you really couldn’t take your eyes off”, the England all-rounder said.

Stokes also pointed out that England and Australia both dominated each other at different stages of the series and every fan watching the series must have really enjoyed it.

“We’ve been in control, then Australia have been in control in different ways, and I think everyone who has turned up to the game has really enjoyed their day of cricket. I guess that’s all you can really ask for, as someone who pays money to come and watch international sport,” the 32-year-old further added.

I Hope We Have Inspired A New Generation: Ben Stokes

Recalling the Ashes 2005, Ben Stokes revealed that the series inspired him as a young person. He hopes that similarly, Ashes 2023 might have inspired a new generation now.

“I really hope that we’ve inspired a new generation. I look back to 2005 and what that series did for me as a young person. I really hope there’s someone who is at my age in 2005 that’s looked at this series and just said, ‘That’s what I want to be doing when I’m 21 or 22,” the left-handed batsman further added.

Australia made a stunning start to Ashes 2023 after winning the first two games. Australia won the 1st Test by 2 wickets and 2nd clash by 43 runs. Later, England won the 3rd Test by 3 wickets and the 5th game by 49 runs. The AUS vs ENG 4th Test ended in a draw.

England’s Chris Woakes and Australia’s Mitchell Starc were awarded player of the series. Woakes hunted 19 wickets in just 3 games of Ashes 2023. Starc finished as the leading wicket-taker in the series with 23 scalps.
