England star Harry Brook has insisted the IPL was more exhausting physically as well as mentally for him than the ongoing Ashes against Australia.

The highly-rated batsman made his debut in the IPL this year after Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him up for a whopping amount of Rs 13.25 crore. Harry Brook, however, failed to justify the price tag as he constantly struggled in the IPL. The SRH team management changed his batting position a number of times but it did not make much difference as the England star just could not prove himself in the IPL.

In 11 games, he managed to score only 190 runs at an average of 21 and a strike rate of 123. 100 of those 190 runs came in one game only when he scored a brilliant century against Kolkata Knight Riders. But barring that century, the England batsman struggled throughout his maiden season in IPL.

Harry Brook on playing in the IPL:

It did not take Harry Brook long to get back to his best. The 24-year-old has been in fine form in the ongoing Ashes. On Thursday, he scored his third consecutive fifty of the series and fourth overall. His scores in the first four Tests read – 32, 46, 50, 4, 3, 75, and 61.

And on day one of the ongoing fifth Test, Harry Brook scored 85 runs off just 91 balls to help England post 283. Harry Brook is playing his first Ashes and he could not have asked for a more intense series. And when he was addressing the media at the end of the day’s play, one of the journalists asked him whether the series is the most exhausting one for him so far.

“Is this the most exhausting experience you’ve had physically and mentally?,” asked the journo.

In reply, Harry Brook quickly pointed out that the Ashes was at number two on his list as he revealed that the IPL has been his most exhausting experience so far, saying: “It’s a good question. It’s probably second. The IPL was pretty tough to be fair. It has been tough but we obviously had that 10 days, a week or so off. I managed to go on holiday. “
