England star Jonny Bairstow has finally broken his silence on his controversial dismissal during the second Test of the ongoing five-match Ashes series against Australia.
The thrilling second Test at the Lord’s was marred by Jonny Bairstow’s contentious dismissal at a crucial juncture in the game. In the first session of the final day when England were chasing 371 runs to win the game, the game witnessed a huge controversy when Alex Carey stumped Jonny Bairstow after the latter walked out of the crease.

Cameron Green bowled a short ball to end his over and Jonny Bairstow after ducking underneath it decided to walk out of the crease seemingly believing that the ball was dead. Alex Carey, however, had other ideas. The Australia wicketkeeper threw the ball at the stumps and appealed before the umpire gave his decision in the visitors’ favor.
Jonny Bairstow finally breaks his silence on his dismissal:
The dismissal caused huge controversy as the English cricket fraternity slammed Australia for not following the spirit of the game. England head coach Brendon McCullum had gone on to say that the English team was unlikely to share a beer with the Australian team any time soon.
Amidst all of it, Jonny Bairstow decided to stay quiet before finally breaking his silence after his heroics with the bat on day three of the ongoing fourth Ashes Test in Manchester. Jonny Bairstow played a stunning knock of 99 not out of just 81 balls to help England score 592 in the first innings.
And as he was speaking to Sky Sports after the day’s play, he was asked about the dismissal. In reply, the wicketkeeper-batsman straightaway refused to give any views, saying: “I don’t have a view.”
At the same time, he did make it clear that he has learned his lessons after the incident. Jonny Bairstow stated that he had been extra mindful of staying in his crease throughout his innings during the ongoing Test. And while he refused to share his views on the dismissal, he did indicate that he does not like such a mode of dismissal.
“I’ve done that all series since that happened,” he added. “You’ve just got to be careful on those things, haven’t you.
“It wasn’t the way that I wanted to be out down at Lord’s, but that’s part and parcel. We’ve seen it on other occasions, and I’ve even heard about it now in club cricket. That’s not necessarily what you want to be hearing about, when you’re looking at young kids coming up. You play it tough, you play it fair, and on a different day, it doesn’t happen but it is what it is,” he added.
Meanwhile, England have put themselves in the driver’s seat in the ongoing game. After taking a big lead of 375 runs in the first innings, the hosts have reduced Australia to 113 for 4.
