AUS vs SL: Adam Zampa Reveals He Is Carrying Injury In World Cup 2023

The 31-year-old Australia National Cricket Team leg-spinner Adam Zampa was awarded Player of the Match for his stellar performance with the ball in the 14th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Kusal Mendis-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team on Monday, October 16 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

Zampa bowled really well against Sri Lanka and helped Australia make a terrific comeback in the match after the Lankan Lions were off to a flying start. The leg-spinner picked up the wickets of Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Chamika Karunaratne, and Maheesh Theekshana to bag a 4-wicket haul.

Overall, he bowled 8 overs and bagged 4 wickets while giving away 47 runs. He now has 10 4-fers for Australia in ODIs and among spinners, only great Shane Warne (13) has more 4-fers than Zampa.

I had a bit of a back spasm – Adam Zampa

Speaking after the match, Adam Zampa said that he wasn’t feeling good because he is carrying a back spasm. He explained:

“To be honest, I wasn’t feeling great because I had a bit of a back spasm. Was playing through it the last couple of days. Today I felt better, bowled better today.”

“(On coming out the attack at the end) I think it was the captain’s decision to get the off spinner against the lefties, and my back was also pretty sore.”

Adam Zampa was further asked about his performance so far in the World Cup 2023 and he said that he is not at his best. He elaborated:

“Personally, not at my best and last game particularly felt I could have been doing better. My job in this team is to take wickets in the middle order. Didn’t quite do that last game and put the pressure on the death bowlers. Today, I’ve been feeling better, but nice to come out on the winning side today. Took a while to get into the game, just got to keep that wicket taking attitude going, doesn’t matter if I leak some runs.”

Adam Zampa signed off by saying that their next match against Pakistan in Bengaluru is going to be a tough game. He said:

“(On the plans forward) I wish winning was that easy, we’ve got a big one against Pakistan in Bangalore next up. That’s going to be a tough one.”
