The 33-year-old Australia National Cricket Team fast bowling all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has reportedly been ruled out of the forthcoming two-match T20 International series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.

Star all-rounder Marcus Stoinis, who was originally named in the squad for West Indies T20Is, has been ruled out of the T20I series as he continues his recovery from a side strain.

In a bizarre turn of events, West Indies have dropped middle-order batter Shimron Hetmyer from their 2022 T20I World Cup squad after he missed his rescheduled flight to Australia, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) said in a statement.

The 25-year-old left-hander has been replaced in the squad by Shamarh Brooks, a 34-year-old right-hander who has played 11 T20Is for the West Indies and will fly out “as soon as possible” to join the squad in Australia.

West Indies have been in terrible form in T20I cricket. India beat them by 4-1 in August and New Zealand beat them by 2-1 right after that. Australia are in decent form in T20I cricket. Although they were defeated by India by 2-1 in a 3-match T20I series recently, they gave tough competition to the hosts at their home turf.

The Aussies will be keen to improve their performances leading up to the marquee event. The management will want the likes of Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell to hit form at the right moment.

On the other hand, West Indies will target to spring a surprise. They are now considered underdogs. Hence, they will be under less pressure at the event. If they can utilize the talent in the squad, they can surely go on to defeat some tough teams. For that, they first need to do well against Australia.

The AUS vs WI 1st T20I will take place on October 5 (Wednesday) at Carrara Oval in Queensland. The 2nd T20I will be played on October 7 (Friday) at The Gabba in Brisbane. Aaron Finch leads Australia in the T20I series while Nicholas Pooran leads West Indies.
