Former England captain turned commentator Michael Vaughan took to X (formerly Twitter) to appreciate West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph who had a brilliant Test debut outing against Australia on Day 1 of the 1st Test in Adelaide. The right-arm fast-medium bowler not only made contributions with the ball but also with the bat as West Indies have a lead of 129 runs at stumps on Day 1.

For a fact, it???s very rare to see Michael Vaughan heaping praise on any non-English or Australian cricketer but when he does, it means the player really has done something significant. And rightfully so on his debut, Shamar Joseph did not fail to make an impression against the world???s best team, which is coming at the back of a 3-0 whitewash of Pakistan.

Pat Cummins had elected to bowl first after winning the toss and had put West Indies under immense pressure right away. It was the Aussie captain who removed both the openers ??? Kraigg Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul from the crease for scores of 13 and 6.

Then after a decent resistance from number 3 Kirk McKenzie, Josh Hazlewood removed him for 50 and claimed 3 back-to-back wickets of Alick Athanaze, Kavem Hodge, and Justin Greaves with West Indies going 108/6 by the 42nd over. Then Cummins took the wicket of Joshua Da Silva for 6 and Mitchell Starc got Gudakesh Motie for just a single run.

It was then that Shamar Joseph walked out to bat and started another short resistance. West Indies could have easily got all out for 140-150 but Joseph showed brilliant character and partnered with Kemar Roach for a 47-run stand with the former scoring 36 off 41 before falling prey to off-spinner Nathan Lyon with Roach scoring 17 runs to help the visitors post 188.

Then when it was his turn to bowl, Shamar Joseph gave West Indies their first breakthrough by dismissing new Aussie opener Steve Smith while he was at 12. The 24-year-old continued his form with another wicket of number 3 batter Marnus Labuschagne for 10 to reduce Australia to 45/2 by the 16th over.

???We saw a young player today in Shamar Joseph arrive at Test level. We want him desperately wanting to play Tests for years to come,??? Vaughan wrote.

Joseph???s line length and execution of deliveries are being praised heavily on social media and especially the way he removed Smith was classic Test match bowling. A good length delivery with a hint of late outswing, taking a thick outside edge off the bat to reach the 3rd slip, Shamar Joseph could not have dreamed of a better debut.

???Let???s Give Teams More Funding???, Vaughan Pleads To The ICC To Have Players Like Shamar Joseph

After praising the 24-year-old, Michael Vaughan pleaded to the ICC to send more funding to small cricket boards so that players like Shamar Joseph do not end up getting lured by big money deals from franchises around the world and end up snubbing Test cricket like many others from his country have.

???Come on the ICC let???s give teams more funding so players like Shamar are not tempted to say no to Test cricket,??? Vaughan concluded.
