West Indies‘ right-arm pacer Shamar Joseph is having a debut Test series to remember at the Land Down Under. He is experiencing all sorts of things in the 2-match series, which is expected to finish today at the Gabba stadium in Brisbane. The 2nd Test is a day-night match being played with the Pink ball in which the West Indies have produced an emphatic comeback.
Among the key players behind their dreamy comeback are not just batters like Joshua Da Silva, Kavem Hodge, and Justin Greaves among others but 24-year-old pacer Shamar Joseph who is taking part in his first-ever Pink ball Test match.
He made his debut in the 1st Test in Adelaide, picking the wicket of Steve Smith in what was his first international ball, and went on to claim another 4 to complete a sensational debut 5-wicket haul. Although the visitors lost the match by a 10-wicket deficit Shamar Joseph proved to be the one for West Indies’ Test future.
In the 2nd Test as West Indies were marching on due to their very good outing with the bat, Joseph endured a very ugly and severe hit on by Mitchell Starc who threw a vicious toe-crushing yorker. Joseph was retired hurt after it and the initial glimpses on his feet looked highly unfavorable for him to return.
However, as the saying goes “Fortune favors the brave” and that exactly proved to be the case for Shamar Joseph who returned to the field to defend a target of 216. At first, it seemed as if the target wouldn’t pose much of a threat to the Aussies but Joseph has made life very difficult for them.
He came back with a very strong mindset which was reflected in his bowling. Joseph has registered his 2nd consecutive 5-wicket haul and his performance has put West Indies in a very strong situation. Shamar Joseph has taken some very important wickets of Cameron Green, Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, and Pat Cummins.
He has bowled in terrific pace and line length and West Indies are counting on him for what could be a very historic win. Kraigg Brathwaite’s side need just 2 wickets for the win but Steve Smith is currently going strong at 75 and with him is Nathan Lyon.
Here are some of the best Twitter reactions from Shamar Joseph’s splendid five-for:
I grew up listening to stories of the great Malcolm Marshall bowling and batting with a broken arm and winning games for the Windies.
Today, am privileged to witness a young man firing on all cylinders for the Windies with a broken toe no less 🔥🔥
