Australia annihilate South Africa, hand them their biggest ODI defeat in history

Table of Contents
Australia has recorded the second-biggest win in terms of runs, as they achieved a mammoth 276-run victory over South Africa. They scored a huge 431 runs in their innings, with the top three hitting centuries.
After having lost the first two games in the series, the Australians were not left hopeful, as a result of which they even dropped Josh Hazelwood from the playing XI for the final ODI. After having won the T20I series 2-1, they lost the ODI series 2-1; however, they would still head back with their heads held high.
It is due to their remarkable performance in the final ODI, which included their top three batters hitting form and registering a world record win in the history of ODI cricket.

The ODI series, unlike the T20I series, cannot be picked as a closely fought contest since the first two games were largely dominated by the Proteas, while on the other hand, the last game was single-handedly won by the Australians with a dominating show.
Australia lost the series 2-1; however, the Australian top-order, comprising Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Cameron Green, showed class batting performance while Australia posted a record-breaking 431 run total in their innings. Alex Carey, who was sent up the order, also scored a good half-century.
The Australians had bowled out the Proteas in every game of the series, and they did so in this game as well. South Africa were bowled out for just 155 runs on the board, thus handing the Aussies a massive 276-run win. The Proteas' best batter in the series, Matthew Breetzke, did not feature in the game, while Dewald Brevis missed an ODI half-century.
Australia records second-biggest win in ODI History
The huge win by a margin of 276 runs marks the second-highest win by runs for the Australian side in the longer white-ball format. Before this, their biggest win came against the Netherlands in the 2023 CWC, where they won by a margin of 309 runs.
On the other hand, India holds the record for winning by the biggest margin, which is 317 runs in ODIs against Sri Lanka.

Australia lost the series 2-1; however, the Australian top-order, comprising Travis Head, Mitchell Marsh, and Cameron Green, returned to some commanding form. Though skipper Marsh has performed decently in the format, his partner Head has been down on runs.
Travis Head smacked an 80-ball hundred and accelerated further with 42 runs off the next 22 balls. He was well supported by Mitchell Marsh, who also hit a 100 before being dismissed. Head was awarded the Player of the match, while Keshav Maharaj was picked as the Player of the series.
Cameron Green scored a stellar hundred despite having come to the crease after 30+ overs had already been bowled in the game. His hundred came off just 50 balls as he smacked a 118* from just 55 balls with 6 fours and 8 sixes to his name. This was the maiden hundred for the young Australian all-rounder.
