Beau Webster was added to the Australian squad as a cover for Micthell Marsh. The latter has been struggling with his fitness in the ongoing series, and there were a lot of concerns over his availability for the game in the second Test in Adelaide, Gabba, which was the third Test, and the ongoing match in Melbourne.
Mitchell Marsh faced some discomfort in his back after the first match in Perth
Beau Webster was added to the squad after Mitchell Marsh faced some discomfort in his back after the first match in Perth. It was learned that Marsh will be playing only as a batter in the team as Australia won't be putting extra baggage on him by making him bowl.
Since the last three games, Mitchell Marsh hasn't bowled as much as expected. This gives a clear indication that the all-rounder is struggling with his fitness. Also, he hasn't been at his best with the bat either in the series as he has bagged low scores.
In the ongoing match too, Mitchell Marsh struggled to get going as he scored just 4 runs off 13 balls. The all-rounder attempted to play a pull shot, but the ball caught the outside edge of his bat and was safely pouched by Rishabh Pant behind the stumps on the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah.
Mitchell Marsh's struggles with bat and ball might make Australia make a change to the team for the last Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25
With Mitchell Marsh not bowling and struggling to get going with the bat as well, it won't be a surprise if the all-rounder gets benched for the last game. With Beau Webster set to join the team again on Sunday, there are high chances he might play the New Year's Test at Sydney.
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia is currently levelled at 1-1. Both the teams are grinding hard in Melbourne, and with the things that have panned out on the first two days, it promises to be an exciting finish to the game.
