With a cruising win against the West Indies National Cricket Team, Pakistan National Cricket Team's Test captain Babar Azam makes his way back into the top 10 in the updated ICC rankings for Test batters.
Babar played a crucial role with his bat in the second Test against West Indies, scoring 88 in the first innings of the match and remaining unbeaten for 24 until Pakistan confirmed the win in the second innings.
Babar Azam back in the top 10 of ICC Rankings
The win itself was a remarkable achievement for the Pakistan cricket team, which came along with Babar's personal achievement. Since the start of September 2024, it is the first time that Babar Azam has climbed into the top 10 of the ICC rankings for Test batters. After almost a couple of years, the right-hander climbed to the spots where the best active Test batters are ranked.
The series against West Indies was crucial for the Men in Green as their earnings in the ongoing World Test Championship 2025-27 were very nominal. Additionally, their records in away Tests were disappointing as well. Ahead of the series, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) retained Babar Azam as the Test team captain.
In the first match of the series, Pakistan played well in the first innings, but the pace bowling department of the home team was too good to overpower the visitors. In the second match, skipper Babar Azam, recalled batter Abdullah Shafique, and spinner Sajid Khan cruised Pakistan to a much-needed win.
According to the latest ICC Rankings for the Test batters, Babar Azam moves five steps ahead to confirm the 10th position in the standings. With 716 rating points, he is currently standing at the tenth spot, after India National Cricket Team batter Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is at the 9th spot with 733 points.
The rankings for the Test team batters are currently led by the dynamic batter of the Australia National Cricket Team, Travis Head, with 853 points because of his stunning batting display against their arch-rival England in the previous Ashes series in Australia.
England's Harry Brook and the Test team captain Joe Root are ranked second and third with 852 and 840 rating points, respectively. Among the Indian Test batters, skipper Shubman Gill is at the seventh position with 743 rating points.
Alongside Babar Azam, there are two other Pakistan cricketers who have improved their positions in the ICC rankings. Shafique, who played a brilliant unbeaten 160* in the first innings of the match, has progressed 25 slots to move to 32nd for Test batters
