The India vs Pakistan match on September 14 in the Asia Cup 2025 has already created buzz, but this time, the story is different. India will be without their old match-winners, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
A new generation of Indian players is stepping in, and all eyes are on them to see whether they can live up to the expectation and challenge Pakistan.
However, there is no doubt that the Indian cricket team can surprise everyone. Ahead of the India vs Pakistan match in Dubai on Sunday, Wasim Akram has pointed out that the Suryakumar Yadav-led team plays with full confidence, and they believe in themselves and their abilities.
Wasim Akram says confidence is India's biggest weapon against Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 clash
The legendary Pakistani cricketer explained that talent alone doesn’t win matches against strong teams like Pakistan. Akram further said that this new Indian team isn’t focused on personal records or batting averages; rather, they are playing for the team, which makes them unbeatable.
Wasim Akram said on Sony Sports Network, “They are believing, no doubt. They should believe. When you play against such a team and at this level, it doesn't matter how talented you are; it won't work. This team is believing. They're not playing for themselves. They don't care about the averages.”
The legendary fast bowler cited the example of the young Indian opener Abhishek Sharma, saying his strike rate of 193 is a sign of how aggressive and fearless the Indian players are.
Akram noted that this attitude didn’t appear overnight, but it’s the result of years of efforts not only at the international level but also in first-class cricket, domestic tournaments, and especially the IPL.

Wasim Akram reflects India’s bold cricket revolution
Akram added, “In T20s, they shouldn't even care about the averages. You see, Abhishek Sharma's strike rate is 193. Everybody should have this kind of mindset. That's why Indian cricket has reached this level. And it hasn't gone suddenly. It's been planned over the years.”
He noted that the Indian players are already mentally and physically prepared for high-stakes matches like India vs Pakistan before coming into the national team, and that’s why they are ruling the cricket world.
The Pakistani great said, “Not just in international cricket. I'm talking about first-class cricket. Domestic T20s. There was the IPL. That's where this mindset comes from. And when they come to the Indian team, they're mentally and physically strong. That's why Indian cricket is doing well.”
India vs Pakistan match will be competitive: Wasim Akram
At the end, Akram predicted that the upcoming India vs Pakistan match would be “a competitive” game in Dubai. However, he admitted that India is a good and strong team but felt Pakistan would have the confidence of winning the tri-series recently, and they can pull off a surprise in the India vs Pakistan clash.
He signed off by saying, “Yes, India are a good and strong team, and if you compare these two teams player-wise, India look strong, but I think Pakistan will have the confidence of winning the tri-series and will give a good competition.”
