Babar Azam Surpasses Chris Gayle To Become Fastest Batsman To Reach 7000 T20 Runs

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam on Sunday became the fastest batsman to reach 7000 T20 runs in a National T20 Cup match against Southern Punjab.

Leading Central Punjab’s batting attack Babar scored an unbeaten 59 to chase Southern Punjab’s paltry target of 120 in 17.2 overs in Rawalpindi. CEP won the match by seven wickets and 16 balls to spare.

Babar Azam achieves the milestone in 187 innings

Babar Azam was just four runs shy of completing 7000 T20 runs, and in the third over of the chase, he played an elegant cover drive off Aamer Yamin’s bowling to reach the milestone.

Babar surpassed West Indies swashbuckling batsman Chris Gayle’s record of fastest player to score 7000 T20 runs in 192 innings, and the Pakistan skipper took five innings (187) lesser than the Universe Boss to claim the record.

Babar Azam holds the record of quickest batsman to 2000 T20I runs

Babar also broke Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s record of becoming the quickest batsman to each 2000 T20 International runs in 52 innings in April this year. Kohli completed the mark in 56 innings in 2018.

With 2204 runs from 61 T20I matches at the strike rate of 130.64, Babar Azam is the third-highest run-scorer of Pakistan in the shortest format behind Shoaib Malik (2335) and Mohammad Hafeez (2429).

Babar Azam will lead Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates this month as they will play India, Afghanistan, New Zealand and two more teams in Group 2 of the Super 12 stage.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was hit hard after New Zealand and England’s teams pulled out of the white-ball tour in the country, which had a strange impact on players and the fans.
