Pakistan take on Bangladesh in the first T20I of the New Zealand T20I Tri-Series 2022 on October 7 Friday in Christchurch. The final of the tri-series will be played on October 14. This is the final international assignment before the teams depart for Australia for the T20 World Cup.

Each team plays the other two teams twice in the series and the top two teams will play the final on October 14. Shakib Al Hasan is back in the side to lead Bangladesh in the series. Babar Azam will lead Pakistan and Kane Williamson will lead the home side.

Shakib who has already left the Caribbean for the tri-series will join the team before the first T20I. Habibul Bashar member of the selection committee said that the Bangladesh skipper is likely to bat at number four in the series.

“We are discussing it (whether he will bat at three or not). In the CPL he batted at four and played well. I think on Australian wickets he will make necessary adjustment (even if he is moved to four). It’s not like he (Shakib) is very rigid as far as his batting order is concerned. He is very flexible and he doesn’t have any problem batting at three or four when we spoke with him about his place in the batting order” Habibul Bashar, a member of the selection panel, told Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, for Pakistan, the onus will be on skipper Babar Azam to win this series after losing the series against England at home. He blamed the loss in the decider on his bowlers as they failed to defend a total of over 200 runs.

“With 200 runs on the board, if we lose early wickets, it puts pressure on the other batters. This series was vital for us. We need to improve in the shortest format. I also mentioned at the toss, that we have a good bowling attack. Haris is bowling well, and he is improving everyday. I think entire Pakistan was waiting for this, even we were happy to host England” said Babar.

From the hot and humid conditions in Pakistan and UAE, both teams now find themselves in much cooler conditions in New Zealand. They will take some time to settle down with the given weather conditions.

The first T20I between Bangladesh and Pakistan begins at 3 pm local time in Christchurch which is 7.30 am IST. The match thus begins in the afternoon and the weather conditions will be good for cricket with sunshine around. There will be a few clouds as well. The Hagley Oval has hosted just two T20Is so far.
