Young Bangladeshi opener Tanzid Hasan registered an unwanted record on his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in the second match of the ongoing Asia Cup. Tanzid Hasan didn’t get off to a good start in his career, as he was dismissed for a duck in his first international game.

Tanzid Hasan opened the innings in place of the injured Tamim Iqbal in Bangladesh’s first game of the Asia Cup 2023. The left-handed batter was dismissed for a duck by Maheesh Theekshana after facing just two deliveries in his first international match for Bangladesh.

Tanzid Hasan Registers Unwanted Record On ODI Debut

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first at the Pallekele Cricket Ground in Kandy on Thursday, August 31. Tanzid was outfoxed by a brilliant delivery by Maheesh Theekshana on the second over and didn’t want to challenge the field umpire’s decision.

Tanzid Hasan became the fourth Bangladesh opener to register a duck on his ODI debut. Overall, he became the 16th Bangladeshi cricketer to be dismissed without scoring runs. He walked from the field to the dressing room with disappointment on his face.

Bangladesh Need To Win Their Final Game To Advance To Super 4

The Shakib Al Hasan-led team got off to a poor start in the continental tournament. The Bangla Tigers lost their first game in the tournament by five wickets. They need to win their second and final group stage game to keep their hopes of reaching the Super Four stage alive.

Bangladesh managed to score just 164 runs in 42.4 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 89 runs with the help of seven boundaries. The hosts, Sri Lanka, chased down the target with 11 overs to spare. Young pacer Matheesha Pathirana (4/32) was named Player of the Match.
