Sri Lanka have asserted their authority over Bangladesh in the second game of the Asia Cup 2023 in Pallekele. The wrecker-in-chief behind this has been none other than mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana, who made the opposition batter look clueless. 

Maheesh Theekshana made a mockery of the Bangladesh batters and it didn’t seem that the opposition team read him at all. Out of the two wickets that he picked, the scalp of Najmul Hossain Shanto was one of the most talked about dismissals in the first innings. 

Maheesh Theekshana bowled a staggering delivery that even outfoxed well-set Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was batting at 89. The Sri Lanka spinner bowled a length ball around off stump. The ball drifted in sharply and went through the bat and pad of the batter to rattle the stumps. 

Najmul Hossain Shanto tried to play the flick and dab it for a single. But he completely missed the line of the ball from Maheesh Theekshana and ended up getting bowled. Here’s the video:

Najmul Hossain Shanto looked the most settled batter in the team and was batting with great grit and determination. He fell for 89 runs off 122 balls and also smashed 7 fours in his innings. His knock made sure that Bangladesh went past 150 runs. 

BAN vs SL: Maheesh Theekshana along with Matheesha Pathirana combine to bundle out Bangladesh for 164 runs 

Apart from Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana was the bowler who troubled the Bangladesh batters. The pacer with his slinging action looked like a dangerous force as he picked 4 wickets and gave away just 32 runs. 

Maheesh Theekshana picked two wickets whereas Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka, and Dunith Wellage also picked a wicket each. Based on the rollicking bowling effort, they bundled out the opposition for just 164 runs. Apart from Najmul Hossain Shanto, no other batter crossed the 20-run mark with second best scorer being Towhid Hridoy with 20 runs.
