Bangladesh Women’s National Cricket Team hosted Australia Women’s National Cricket Team in the first ODI of the three-match series. The match of the series, which is also part of the ICC Championship, took place at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday (21st March).

Australia Women’s National Cricket Team made sure that they kickstarted the series on high and bagged important ICC Championship points. They displayed a collective effort with both bat and ball and won the game by a massive margin of runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

BAN-W vs AUS-W Scorecard, 1st ODI – Australia innings: Annabel Sutherland and Alana King power team to a total of 213 runs

Australia were asked to bat first at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. They didn’t have the kind of outing they would’ve wanted but vital contributions from almost every batter made sure that they ended with a competitive total on the board in the first match.

Australia lost Phoebe Litchfield for a one-ball duck and things got worse for them when Ellyse Perry (2) perished early as well. After that skipper Alyssa Healy (24) and Beth Mooney (25) tried to bail the team out of trouble but couldn’t carry on the starts they got and lost their wickets at the crucial juncture of the game.

Tahlia McGrath (9) too fell without making any bigger impact as Australia were left tottering at 78/5. With the team under pressure, Ashleigh Gardner (32) played a decent knock for the team and made sure that Australia went past 100 runs before she got stumped out after facing 38 balls in her innings.

But after that, Annabel Sutherland stood tall with her team and made sure that she took them to a competitive total. She first added 34 runs to Georgia Wareham (12) and once the latter was back in the hut, she along with Alana King did further damage for the team.

Annabel slammed a magnificent half-century and ended with the innings of unbeaten 58 runs off 76 balls. Alana King on the other hand scored brutal 46 runs off 31 balls as the duo added unbeaten 67 runs. Their vital partnerships powered Australia to a total of 213 runs on the board.

For Bangladesh, Sultana Khatun, and Nahida Akhtar picked two wickets each whereas Fahima Khatun, Marufa Akter, and Shorna Akter bagged one scalp. Their rollicking effort with the bat put Australia under immense pressure and helped Bangladesh restrict the opposition to a low total.

BAN-W vs AUS-W Scorecard, 1st ODI – Bangladesh innings: Ashleigh Gardner picks three wickets as Bangladesh get bundled out for 95 runs

Bangladesh had a torrid outing with the bat in the chase. Fargana Hoque bagged a two-ball duck. But after that, Sobhana Mostary (17) and Murshida Khatun (10) tried to settle in but couldn’t and lost their wickets early. Nigar Sultana (27) looked good at the crease but it was an unfortunate end to her innings.

She got run out and after her wicket, Bangladesh suffered a massive collapse. Australian bowlers were all over the batters and made their mockery. They bowled impeccable lines and lengths and troubled the batters a lot. Annabelle Sutherland was the wrecker-in-chief behind that.

She picked three wickets whereas Alana King gave only 12 runs in her 10 overs and picked one wicket. Kim Garth bagged two wickets while Megan Schutt was also in the wickets column as Australia bundled out Bangladesh for 95 runs to win the match by 118 runs.
