The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) are in advanced discussions to play a white-ball series in the UAE in October 2024. According to a Cricbuzz report, the proposed tour will include three ODIs and three T20Is, but the exact dates of the series are yet to be confirmed.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh were originally set to play a full-fledged series in July 2024, featuring two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. However, Bangladesh later requested a postponement due to concerns over player workload.
In response, the Afghanistan Cricket Board proposed a revised white-ball series, including three ODIs and three T20Is, in Greater Noida, India, during July–August. However, it was also shelved due to concerns over unfavorable monsoon weather and Bangladesh's jam-packed schedule.
Afghanistan and Bangladesh Set to Play White-Ball Series in October
Afghanistan and Bangladesh are expected to play a white-ball series in early October, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is. Following the series, Bangladesh will host the West Indies later in the month, while Afghanistan are scheduled to tour Zimbabwe.
The T20I series will help both teams in their preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, giving them a chance to finalize team combinations.
This will be their first T20I meeting since the 2024 T20 World Cup clash in Kingstown, where Afghanistan defeated the Bangla Tigers to reach their first-ever semi-final in an ICC event. The two sides last met in November 2024, when Afghanistan won the ODI series 2-1.
We Are in Discussion with ACB Regarding the White-Ball Series - BCB Cricket Operations Manager
BCB Cricket Operations Manager Shahriar Nafees confirmed that talks are ongoing with ACB to finalise a white-ball series, which had been postponed earlier in 2024. Nafees also mentioned that the two Test matches, which were part of the original schedule, will be played later.
"We are in discussion with ACB regarding the white-ball series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is that were rescheduled earlier in 2024. We will be playing the remaining two Test matches at some other time that suits both the boards," Shahriar Nafees told Cricbuzz on Friday.
Venue Yet to Be Finalized for the Series - Shahriar Nafees
Shahriar Nafees stated that the series is expected to take place in October, although the venue is yet to be finalized. He clarified that the previously held three-match ODI series was not part of the tour that had been rescheduled in 2024.
"Though the venue is yet to be finalized the series is likely to be played in coming October (2025) if everything goes as per plan. Earlier we also played three ODIs against Afghanistan but that was not part of the tour that was rescheduled in 2024," Nafees added.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesperson Sayeed Naseem Sadat confirmed the development but declined to share further details.
