Bangladesh secured a nine-wicket win over Australia at the Marrara Cricket Ground on Sunday, August 16. Tanzid Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz played key roles in Bangladesh’s win. Mehidy picked up a five-wicket haul, while Tanzid smashed his maiden century as Bangladesh also took a 1-0 lead.
Bangladesh Break India Record With Historic Test Win in Australia
Bangladesh registered the biggest win by an Asian team in Australia by wickets. They moved past India's eight-wicket win over Australia in Melbourne in 2020 and Pakistan's eight-wicket victory in Sydney in 1977.
Bangladesh also recorded their first Test win over Australia in Australia. Before this match, Bangladesh had lost all eight of their previous matches against Australia in the country across formats, including two Tests and six ODIs.
Najmul Hossain Shanto also joined an elite group of Asian captains to win a Test in Australia. He joined the list including Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Bishan Bedi, Mustaq Mohammed, Jasprit Bumrah, Anil Kumble, Sourav Ganguly, Sunil Gavaskar, Javed Miandad and Wasim Akram.
Bangladesh have also won their second Test in a SENA country. Their previous victory came against New Zealand at Mount Maunganui in 2022, when they secured an eight-wicket win.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz Completes Australia Rout With Five-Wicket Haul
Bangladesh bowled Australia out for 198 in the first innings, with Hasan Mahmud taking 6/55. Tanzid Hasan then scored 101, while Shanto made 84 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz added 65 as Bangladesh posted 426 and took a 228-run lead.
Australia needed a strong response in their second innings but continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. Cameron Green led the fight with a century, his first in a Test on home soil, but lacked support as Bangladesh maintained pressure throughout the innings.
Mehidy completed a five-wicket haul to bowl Australia out for 284. The hosts managed only a 56-run lead, leaving Bangladesh with a simple target to chase on the fourth day of the Test. Bangladesh reached the target with nine wickets in hand.

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto praised his team after the historic nine-wicket victory over Australia in Darwin. He highlighted the progress of Bangladesh’s fast bowlers and credited senior batters Mushfiqur Rahim and Mominul Haque for supporting the younger players.
"I am extremely happy and proud of our boys. That is the biggest change in Bangaldesh cricket, the fast bowlers coming in and owning the match. We are happy in the last couple of years the fast bowlers were encouraged to play Test cricket. All credit to Rahim and Mominul for supporting the youngsters."
