The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has asked speedster Mustafizur Rahman to play in all three formats during the West Indies tournament in June.
Mustafizur, who is now participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Delhi Capitals, has yet to answer the board’s proposal.
Since his debut in 2015, the left-arm paceman has only appeared in 14 of Bangladesh’s 39 Tests. He openly admitted that he intended to limit his burden by selecting formats. Following the injuries to pacers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, both of whom are doubtful to return soon for the West Indies Tests, Fizz’s name resurfaced ahead of a red-ball assignment.
“We have been thinking about it and we want Mustafizur to take part in all three formats from the West Indies series,” BCB sources said.
Mustafizur Rahman made his ODI debut against India in 2015:
Mustafizur Rahman, sometimes nicknamed ‘The Fizz,’ is a left-arm fast bowler from Bangladesh who can outsmart batsmen with his slight changes. In his maiden ODI encounter against India in 2015, he drew attention by taking a fifer to guide Bangladesh to a memorable victory.
Mustafizur Rahman is the only bowler to win Player of the Match in both his ODI and Test debuts in international cricket. Rahman was called up to Bangladesh’s Under-19 team for the 2014 World Cup, where he took nine wickets in six games.
Mustafizur not only reached the Bangladesh national team at the highest level after it, but he also signed a deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. The left-arm seamer stole the show in his first IPL season, taking 17 wickets in 16 games to claim the ‘Emerging Player of the Tournament accolade. Currently, he is a member of DC’s IPL 2022 squad.
