The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will fully rely on the Bangladesh government’s order on whether the Bangladesh cricket team will tour Pakistan in May 2025. Earlier, Bangladesh were set to face Pakistan in a five-match T20I series.
Pakistan is still engaged in a war against arch-rivals India, and with the cross-border tension increasing between India and Pakistan, it’s unlikely to be possible to conduct a cricket series in Pakistan right now.
PCB’s new proposal for Bangladesh Cricket Board
PCB will provide a new revised schedule to the Bangladesh Cricket Board. Previously, the first T20I was scheduled for May 27, and the last match of the series was set for June 5.
PCB has also finalised the revised schedule for PSL 2025, with the final of the tournament scheduled for May 25. It will be difficult for both players and the board to host another series just after two days, followed by cross-border tensions.
Bangladesh Cricket Board media committee chairman’s statement
Bangladesh Cricket Board media committee chairman Iftekhar Rahman released his statement on the upcoming tour of Pakistan. In which he said that the cricket board will fully rely on the Bangladesh government.
“Once we receive official communication about the dates and venues [of the tour], we will forward it to the government, The BCB is not the decision-maker in this matter. If the government agencies and our embassy declare Pakistan safe for travel, only then will we proceed,” Iftekhar Rahman stated.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad will take care of the security of players, and ultimately, they will take the final decision of whether the Bangladesh team will travel to Pakistan or not.
"In our previous meeting, we agreed that any such situation would be referred to the foreign and home ministries. Once we get clearance from all relevant bodies, we will finalise the tour. Security concerns were more significant in the past, but Pakistan has proven it can ensure safety."
"Still, given the current circumstances, we need to assess whether the situation across the country is stable before sending the team." BCB media committee chairman added.
Bangladesh’s schedule before Pakistan tour
The Bangladesh team are scheduled to play two T20IS against UAE before the Pakistan tour later this month. They will play both the T20IS in Sharjah on May 17 and 19, and after that, they will were supposed to take a flight from Sharjah to Lahore on May 21.
Two Bangladeshi players, Nahid Rana and Rishad Hossain, were drafted in the PSL 2025. Nahid is playing for Peshawar Zalmi, whereas Rishad is representing Lahore Qalandars but had to leave Pakistan as PSL 2025 came to a halt.
