Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha is confident about his team’s readiness for the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan in away conditions.

Chandika Hathurusingha stated that they are prepared for the first Test match, which is set to be played in Rawalpindi from August 21.

Student protests in Bangladesh have escalated in recent weeks, leading to violence, arson, and property damage. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country after the collapse of her government.

The Bangladesh cricket team traveled to Pakistan as planned for their Test series despite the turmoil.

We Are Prepared For Whatever Challenge - Chandika Hathurusingha

Speaking at a media briefing, Chandika Hathurusingha said that his team is ready for any challenge posed by Pakistan.

He added that the pitch in Rawalpindi is suitable for both fast bowling and batting. Hathurusingha also said that Bangladesh has a strong pace attack to counter Pakistan's batters.

“We are prepared for whatever challenge Pakistan throws at us. The Pindi pitch appears favorable for both fast bowling and batting. Considering Pakistan’s selection, we have also developed a strong contingent of fast bowlers,” Hathurusingha said.

Yesterday, Pakistan announced the playing XI for the first Test of the two-match series. The home team will field an all-seam attack with the part-time option of Salman Ali Agha.

Left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi will spearhead the bowling attack and young fast bowler Naseem Shah will return to the Test team.

Selected Spinners Based On Merit - Chandika Hathurusingha

Chandika Hathurusingha said that they included all-rounders Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz based on player merit rather than pitch conditions. The Bangladesh head coach appreciated the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) support and facilities for their preparations.

“We expected Pakistan’s wickets to be different from Bangladesh and selected spinners based on merit, not just conditions.”

“We are pleased with our preparations and look forward to the challenge,” Hathurusingha further added.

Chandika Hathurusingha opened up about his commitment to his role as Bangladesh's head coach, stating he is looking forward to serving his term. He expressed willingness to accept changes if the board decides to make alterations or continue with him.

The 55-year-old was appointed as Bangladesh's head coach in February 2023, with a contract running until the end of the 2025 Champions Trophy. Bangladesh has delivered inconsistent performances, with group-stage exits in the Asia Cup 2023, ODI World Cup 2023, and T20 World Cup 2024.
