Bangladesh ODI squad for West Indies series announced, Mehidy Hasan Miraz named captain

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against the West Indies in away conditions. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has been ruled out of the series, and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the team in ODIs for the first time.

Najmul Hossain Shanto, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Towhid Hridoy have been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against the West Indies due to their respective injuries. Shanto is recovering from a groin injury, while Hridoy is also dealing with groin issues. Shanto and Rahim were not part of the squad for the Test series.

Bangladesh Cricket Board Announces 15-Member Squad for West Indies ODIs

On Monday, December 2, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the team in ODIs in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto. The statement also revealed that the medical team will reassess Towhid Hridoy in two weeks to determine his availability.

"All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz will now lead the Bangladesh side in ODIs for the first time in the absence of Najmul Hossain Shanto who is still recovering from a groin injury," BCB said in a statement.

"Hridoy had complained of pain in his right groin region and subsequent investigations have confirmed the presence of a medical condition. He has been advised rest and we will reassess him in two weeks to determine his readiness to play," added BCB Sports Physician Monzur Hossain Chowdhury.

Shakib Al Hasan Left Out of Bangladesh Squad for Upcoming ODI Series

Ace all-rounder Shakib al Hasan was excluded from the squad. Shakib al Hasan also missed the Afghanistan ODI series in November. Left-arm fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman will miss the upcoming white-ball series as he wants to be with his wife, who is expected to give birth to their first child in December.

Liton Das, Parvez Hossain Emon, Afif Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, and Tanzim Sakib returned to the ODI squad. Parvez, who had been part of the 2021 series against West Indies but didn't play. Zakir Hasan, who played in the Afghanistan series, was dropped. Fast bowler Nahid Rana retained his spot.

"Fellow left-hander Zakir Hasan, who was in the team in last month's ODI series against Afghanistan in the UAE, has been dropped," BCB said in the statement.

The upcoming three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and the West Indies will be held at Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts. The first match is scheduled for December 8, with the second and third ODIs taking place on December 10 and 12, respectively. All the matches will be played at the same venue.
