The Bangladesh National Cricket Team is moving straight from Asia Cup 2025 action into the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan. They failed to make it to the Asia Cup 2025 final after being thrashed by India and Pakistan in the Super Four games in the UAE.
However, the Tigers will soon return to action in the UAE, where they will play three T20Is on October 2, 3, and 5 in Sharjah against the Afghanistan National Cricket Team. And the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already announced the squad for the T20I series on Sunday, September 28.
Litton Das to miss Afghanistan T20Is as Bangladesh announces squad
Bangladesh’s regular captain, Litton Das, will miss the upcoming T20I series against the Afghan side due to a Grade 1 side strain in his left abdominal muscles that he sustained at the Asia Cup 2025, which will end with either India or Pakistan being crowned champions on Sunday in Dubai.

Litton Das is currently undergoing rehabilitation, ruling him out of the upcoming T20I series against Afghanistan. In the absence of the regular captain, Jaker Ali Anik will lead the side against a competitive Afghan team. Additionally, Soumya Sarkar has been recalled to the squad as the captain’s replacement for the Afghanistan series.
Bangladesh physio shares update on Litton Das
Sharing the update on Litton Das, Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan stated, “Litton had missed the last two matches of the Asia Cup with a side strain. An MRI scan showed a grade 1 strain on the left abdominal muscle. He is currently in recovery and won’t be fit for the T20 series. Our medical team is overseeing his rehab and monitoring his progress closely.”
Soumya Sarkar recalled for the Afghanistan T20I series
Soumya Sarkar has been in explosive form for Khulna in the ongoing NCL T20 tournament. In two recent matches, the 32-year-old opener has delivered powerful performances, scoring 63 off 34 balls against Rajshahi with six boundaries and four sixes, and then 45 off 33 balls against Dhaka Metro, including four fours and three sixes in the ongoing NCL T20 tournament.
Sarkar’s inclusion in the T20I squad has provided the firepower to Bangladesh’s top order. With Afghanistan known for their aggressive bowling attack, they will rely heavily on its experienced players and in-form batters, as they avoided a major overhaul in their Asia Cup 2025 squad for the upcoming T20I series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.
