Bangladesh T20 World Cup squad: The Bangladesh Cricket Board has unveiled the squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February-March. Wicketkeeper Litton Das has been named captain, with Mohammed Saif Hassan appointed vice-captain for the tournament.

There are reports that Bangladesh may refuse to travel to India for the World Cup. Bangladesh’s matches are set to take place in Kolkata, but the team is reportedly unwilling to play in India. Bangladesh’s sports minister, Asif Nazrul, has approached the ICC to request that Bangladesh’s matches be moved out of India.

The bowling attack will play a major role in Bangladesh’s plans. Experienced fast bowlers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed will lead the pace unit. On slower and turning pitches, spinners Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed, and Rishad Hossain are expected to play key roles.

In the batting department, Bangladesh will rely heavily on Litton Das to anchor the innings. At the top of the order, Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon will look to provide quick starts and attacking intent, giving the middle order a solid platform.

Big Names Missing as Bangladesh Face Tough Group at T20 World Cup 2026

There are some big names missing from the squad. Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who is in good form in the Bangladesh Premier League, and Jaker Ali Anik, who recently led the team to a series win against Afghanistan, are absent from the squad.

Bangladesh are still searching for their first T20 World Cup title. They have played in every edition so far but have never reached the semi-finals or gone further in the tournament.

The challenge will be tough once again. Bangladesh are placed in Group C along with England, the West Indies, Nepal, and Italy. Only two teams from the group will qualify for the Super 8s, leaving little room for error.

As per the current schedule, Bangladesh will play all four group matches in India. They will play three games in Kolkata, with the opening match against the West Indies scheduled at Eden Gardens on February 7, while one match will be played in Mumbai.

With Sri Lanka named as a co-host and Pakistan playing all their matches there, the ICC may also consider shifting Bangladesh’s fixtures. Bangladesh last toured India in mid-2024 for a Test and T20I series, but uncertainty now surrounds their World Cup plans.
