The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is looking to restore relations with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) during the T20 World Cup 2026. Following the resolution between the ICC and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), BCB president Aminul Islam has expressed his intent to “break the ice” with the BCCI.
Bangladesh pulled out of the T20 World Cup after citing security concerns when the ICC declined their request to move matches away from India. The decision was taken through a vote at an ICC meeting, after which Bangladesh did not participate in the tournament. Scotland were brought in as their replacement.
After a later meeting in Lahore, the ICC confirmed that Bangladesh would not face any sanctions for boycotting the T20 World Cup 2026. It was also agreed that Bangladesh will be awarded hosting rights for an ICC tournament sometime between 2028 and 2031.
Bangladesh Look to “Break the Ice” With BCCI During India vs Pakistan Clash in Colombo
Aminul Islam said that the ICC has planned a joint meeting involving five Asian cricket boards during the India-Pakistan match at the T20 World Cup. The BCB stated that it is an opportunity to open dialogue and ease tensions, calling it an icebreaker with the BCCI.
"The ICC has taken a decision. The major stakeholders of the ICC are these five Asian countries (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan) and for the India-Pakistan match on the 15th in the World Cup, they want representatives of all five Asian countries to be present at the ground together, watch the match together and talk to one another," Aminul was quoted in leading Bangladeshi newspaper Prothom Alo on Wednesday.
"You can consider it as something like that (an ice breaker between us)," he added.
We Will Also Enter Into an Agreement - Aminul Islam
Aminul Islam said that the boards are likely to draft a detailed Memorandum of Understanding to ensure that all decisions are clearly recorded. He added that the agreement would be written line by line to avoid confusion later.
"We will also enter into an agreement. The agreement will be line by line, an MoU-type [Memorandum of Understanding] document, so that there is no uncertainty," said Aminul.
Similar Discussions With the ICC Are More or Less Finalised - Aminul Islam
The BCB president said that a similar situation was handled by drafting an MoU to prevent any party from stepping away from the agreed terms during the Asian Cricket Council Annual General Meeting in Dhaka.
"You know that earlier when we held the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting in Dhaka, a similar issue arose. There as well, we prepared a MoU-type document so that no one could ever deviate from the contract in any way," Aminul said.
"Similar discussions (regarding preparing the MoU) with the ICC are more or less finalised," he added.
