The news of MS Dhoni’s retirement creates buzz every time, and in the last stage of every IPL season from the last three to four years, the big question arises about whether Dhoni will play next season or not.

Currently, there is no hint from Dhoni’s side to retire from the IPL, and it is most likely that Dhoni to continue playing the IPL. The Times of India has reported that Dhoni is likely to be available for IPL 2026 too.

Will MSD set up young core group for CSK’s future

In this edition of the IPL, CSK were thrashed by every team, and their old-school cricket backfired on them. But their mid-season signing of three young players has been brilliant for them.

It might be a chance that Dhoni will likely continue playing till IPL 2026 and help the young core group to set up in the CSK camp.

CSK signed many experienced players in the mega auction, like Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, and Deepak Hooda, but none of them stepped up for the team in IPL 2025.

Their mid-season signings like Dewald Brevis, Ayush Mhatre, and Urvil Patel have shown the spark in them, and MSD will try to pass the mantle to these young players for the later years.

MSD will also be playing as a player only in the next season, as Rituraj Gaikwad will recover from the injury and will take over the captaincy from MS Dhoni.

MS Dhoni's performance in IPL 2025

Dhoni scored 180 runs in 12 matches in the ongoing IPL season at a strike-rate of 140.63. But this stats doesn’t tell the whole story as this season is failure for Dhoni with the bat.

Most of the runs came in the losing cause, and whenever he came to the crease at any point in time, the required run-rate automatically moved up in the last overs.

But there is also a main reason behind that: he didn’t get any support from the top order or the middle order. CSK’s batters' poor performance has put them in the last position in the points table for the first time.

CSK have only two games left in the IPL 2025, and they will be looking to give chances to young players and the bench players to make a solid playing XI for the next season.

They are already eliminated from the tournament and will try to win the remaining matches to not finishing the season in the last position. If this happened in this edition, then it will be the first time that, CSK have finished the points table in the last position.
