Shikhar Dhawan took a hilarious dig at his former India teammate Cheteshwar Pujara after the latter began preparing for the forthcoming Irani Trophy.

Both Cheteshwar Pujara and Shikhar Dhawan are presently out of the Indian team and are very unlikely to earn a recall again. With age not on their side and the selectors making it clear that they will be giving extended runs to youngsters, it would not be surprising if neither Cheteshwar Pujara nor Shikhar Dhawan played for India again.

Shikhar Dhawan has not played for India since December last year. He was a part of the Indian team for the ODI series in Bangladesh. The Southpaw has not played a Test since 2018 while he last played a T20I in 2021. On the other hand, Cheteshwar Pujara last played for India in June this year during the WTC final against Australia.

Shikhar Dhawan trolls Cheteshwar Pujara:

The disappointment of getting dropped from the Indian Test team once again has not stopped Cheteshwar Pujara from working hard. While most of the players decide against playing in the domestic arena after a successful international career, Cheteshwar Pujara is an exception.

At present, he is preparing for the Irani Trophy. Saurashtra will be locking horns against the Rest of India in the Irani Trophy clash. And when he took to Instagram to update the fans about it, Shikhar Dhawan could not stop himself from trolling his ex-teammate. Shikhar Dhawan hilariously asked the Saurashtra star to let the youngsters play, writing:

“Bhai bas kar youngster ko bhi khelne de ab. Irani se Tere liye Naani Trophy ho gayi hai.”

Cheteshwar Pujara has represented India in 103 Tests so far, scoring over 7000 runs with the help of 19 centuries and 35 fifties. He recently expressed his disappointment over being dropped from the Test team.

“Sometimes you do get frustrated, even if you have to prove yourself after 90 Tests and five-six thousand, whatever number of runs I had scored. It’s not easy. Sometimes it plays around with your ego. There are still doubts – are you good enough?

“If you have to prove yourself again and again, (you wonder) whether it is worth it,” Pujara had said in the Final Word Podcast.
