A beautiful and emotional moment between Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma stole the show even before the first ball was bowled in India’s T20 World Cup 2026 opener against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, February 7.

Suryakumar Yadav seeks Rohit Sharma’s advice before India's T20 World Cup 2026 opener

As Suryakumar Yadav walked out for the toss in his first-ever World Cup as India captain, he noticed Rohit Sharma passing nearby. Without thinking twice, India’s T20 captain stepped away from the toss area, ran towards Rohit, and gave his former captain a warm hug.

The moment instantly touched hearts and brought loud cheers from the crowd at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The bond between the two Mumbai cricketers was clearly visible as the two shared a light conversation before the India-USA clash on Saturday.

The brief exchange showed the deep respect, comfort, and friendship they share, built over many years of playing together for India and the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

During the friendly moment, Suryakumar was seen asking Rohit for quick advice about what decision to take at the toss. Interestingly, Rohit also gave his suggestion to the current captain in his style, making Suryakumar laugh before the toss at the Wankhede Stadium.

Here’s how the moment unfolded:

Suryakumar Yadav, while hugging Rohit Sharma, asked, “Jaldi bolo, batting karu yaa fielding karu? (Tell me quickly, should I bat or field first?) ”. Then, Rohit said before laughing, “Fielding Kar… Pagal Hain Kya!!”

The clip of this emotional and heartwarming exchange between Rohit and Suryakumar quickly went viral on social media. Notably, Rohit is the Brand Ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2026, and he was present at the Wankhede Stadium to launch the tournament in India.

Rohit’s emotional message to players as he overwhelmed with emotion watching India from outside

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma was filled with emotions as he looked at the Indian dressing room from the ground. Standing outside as the Brand Ambassador of the T20 World Cup 2026 instead of being with the team, felt strange and emotional for the Hitman.

Looking at the dressing room balcony, an emotional Rohit said, “It feels weird here. It feels weird from there to here.”

Furthermore, Rohit reflected on how players often get so busy with pressure and responsibility that they forget to enjoy the moment, suggesting every player enjoy every bit of the time, as such moments never return.

India’s current ODI captain added, “In the midst of everything, you sometimes don't realize you've got to enjoy the moment as well. Enjoy every game as well. This moment will never come back. Being in India is never going to be easy.”

Standing with ICC officials leaves Rohit Sharma emotional

Being away from the Indian cricket team hit Rohit emotionally. Instead of wearing the India jersey, he was standing alongside ICC match officials as the tournament ambassador, which was a really emotional and different thing for him to experience for the first time.

He signed off by saying, “That's a very emotional feeling because I'm not still used to it, being on this side of the field rather than being on that side of the field. For once, I felt there was no nerve in my body. What a wonderful experience standing there and singing the national anthem. Feels very different and emotional.”
