"Batted at six and seven": Riyan Parag praises Dhruv Jurel's innings after win against GT in IPL 2026

Rajasthan Royals (RR) probably put on one of their best shows on April 5 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad against the Gujarat Titans (GT) to claim a crucial win. In the thrilling encounter, RR won the match by 6 runs in the very last over of the match number 9 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The way Sai Sudharsan was batting from the beginning of the run chase, even a target of 211 was looking not far away enough. As soon as Sudharsan departed, the momentum of the match started to tilt towards the Rajasthan Royals, who scored 210 runs in the first innings.

Ravi Bishnoi was named the best player of the match for his incredible bowling spell. He took 4 wickets in 4 overs in exchange for 41 runs, and completed the 200th T20 career wicket as well. With his skillful spin bowling, he took the wickets of Sai Sudharsan, Glenn Phillips, Washington Sundar, and Rahul Tewatia. Sai Sudharsan's wicket was mostly crucial for Rajasthan as the Gujarat batter scored 73 off 44.

Gujarat Titans were in trouble when most of their middle-order batters were cheaply dismissed in quick intervals. The contest intensified again when the stand-in captain Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada started to deal with the Rajasthan Royals bowler in a counterattacking mode. Until the last over of the match, it was unclear which team would emerge as the winner. Ultimately, it is the Rajasthan Royals.

After the match, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals praised both teams for their efforts. Especially, he praised Dhruv Jurel for his 75-run knock, which helped RR reach 210, and Ravi Bishnoi for his standout bowling spell, which proved decisive.

I was just so excited over the fact that they executed as they wanted, and it's just insane. I was actually going to switch up the order, so credit to Dhruv Jurel for that," Parag said.

"He asked me to go to Jofra on the 19th. So the plan was, because it was like a three-ball difference, it was 15 off 12. I just wanted to like take a chance, just go fast, as fast as possible, as aggressively as possible. If it comes out, it comes out and it looks really good," he added.

"If it doesn't, I'll just be sad and go again next time. I think we have not done a lot of justice to the talent that he possesses. He's done the hard job."

"He's batted at six and seven. But now that we saw, we had an opportunity at number three, I was the first one to say he has got to bat number three and he just showed us why he can. So hopefully this is the start for him and he goes on to get like 700, 800 runs and wins us the championship," he added further.
