Sydney Thunder batter Alex Hales potentially faced one of the painful blows in his career during the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-2024 fixture against Brisbane Heat. The match between the teams is taking place at the Gabba, Brisbane.

In the chase of 173 runs, Sydney Thunder were off to a flying start, thanks to Alex Hales and Cameron Bancroft. The duo took the attack to the opposition bowlers and added over 50 runs partnership in no time for the opening wicket to set the tone for the team.

However, to have a kind of start like that it required a lot from Alex Hales as he faced a nasty blow. During the 4th ball of the second over, Spencer Johnson bowled a skiddy length delivery on middle and leg stump.

Alex Hales tried to slog the delivery towards the led side and was beaten by the pace. The ball went straight to hit him on the box and he was wincing in pain. The batters as down on the ground and looked in immense pain.

Alex Hales after taking quite a few minutes was back on his feet. But it didn’t seem that he dealt a blow as he played some breathtaking shots in his innings after that. The former England batter took XC Bartlett and Spencer Johnson to cleaners after that.

Alex Hales’ best came in the very next over after facing a blow. He slammed XC Bartlett for two consecutive boundaries to put his team at the top. The batter also unleashed himself in the 5th over as he took Paul Walter to the cleaners.

Alex Hales smashed three consecutive boundaries and made sure that his side got off to a flying start. His innings set the platform for the team as they look to bag important points in the tournament. His knock put the opposition under pressure at the start itself.

BBL 2023-24: Alex Hales perishes after scoring 28 runs

Alex Hales couldn’t convert the start he got as he perished after scoring 28 runs. He fell to spinner Matthew Kuhnemann as he tried to smack the bowler for a six but didn’t time the ball to perfection.

Matthew Kuhnemann bowled a short-length ball and the line was wider of off the stump. Alex Hales tried to smack it down the ground and miscued it completely to offer a simple catch. He ended with a knock of 28 runs off 22 balls and also added 58 runs for the opening partnership.

Cameron Bancroft played a vital innings as well at the top. He added a valuable contribution of 46 runs off 39 balls with a strike rate of around 118. He also slammed four boundaries in his innings and played a sensational innings at the top.

Earlier in the game, Brisbane Heat were bundled out for just 172 runs. Nathan McSweeney (73) slammed a brilliant half-century to keep his team in the game. Josh Brown (39) and Sam Billings (23) also played vital hands. For Sydney Thunder, Daniel Sams was the pick of the bowlers as he picked a fifer.
