Bangladesh National Cricket Team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan provided an update about Taskin Ahmed's injury ahead of the Test series against Pakistan. He said that the fast bowler's injury hasn't aggravated, and he can play the longest format of the game.
Bangladesh National Cricket Team is all set to tour Pakistan for the two-match Test series. The Test series will begin on 21st of August in Rawalpindi followed by the second match to be played in Karachi from the 30th of August. Both the games will be part of the ICC Test Championship.
Bangladesh are yet to name the squad for the series, but some of the players are putting in the hard yards to get themselves in the groove ahead of the series. They have been training hard as the team looks to bag important ICC World Test Championship points against Pakistan National Cricket Team.
With the Test series between Bangladesh and Pakistan around the corner, there have been various speculations about the fitness of fast bowler Taskin Ahmed. The pacer has been battling the shoulder injury for a while and this has kept him away from the longest format of the game.
Taskin Ahmed hasn't featured for Bangladesh in Tests since June last year. The fast bowler has been playing in the white-ball format. He played for the team in the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies in June, but with the Test being the longest format, he hasn't played much Cricket.
Ahead of the Pakistan tour, Bangladesh players underwent fitness tests and Taskin Ahmed also made his presence felt there. The fast bowler was monitored. BCB physio Bayjedul had a special eye on the pacer and gave a major fitness update about the premier bowler of the team.
Bayjedul stated that Taskin Ahmed has been playing with the shoulder injury for a while which has kept him away from Tests. He said that although the injury is the same it hasn't aggravated. Speaking about the development, he explained (as quoted by Daily Star):
"Taskin has played in the T20 format as of late. So, he did not bowl for long spells during this period. He had a shoulder issue, which he even got rechecked during the T20 World Cup [in the USA and the West Indies in June]. The thing is, the damage he had at that time, is the same now as it has not aggravated."
If he continues his rehabilitation and the workouts, Taskin can survive - BCB physio Bayjedul
BCB physio Bayjedul made a big claim, saying that Taskin Ahmed will be available for the selection of Pakistan Tests because he can manage this injury if he continues his rehabilitation and the workout. He stated that if the fast bowler feels better, he will be playing the series. He added:
"A player can play by managing these [types of injuries]. If he continues his rehabilitation and the workouts, Taskin can survive. Based on that, Taskin is available.
"But as for bowling workload in Tests where you need to bowl longer spells, a player needs to get up to that speed. So, he will try to do that, and if he feels better then he can play in Tests."
Bangladesh National Cricket Team are all set to fly to Pakistan on August 17. They would be hoping to win the series and give their fans something to cheer about.
