The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to hold its annual general meeting (AGM) on September 28 at its headquarters in Mumbai. During the upcoming meeting, elections will be held for several key positions within the board, including the president, which has been left vacant for the past few months.

Roger Binny stepped down as BCCI president, as the board’s constitution requires office bearers to retire upon reaching 70. He had succeeded Sourav Ganguly in 2019. Binny’s exit opens the path for a high-profile new appointment, while vice president Rajeev Shukla is currently serving as interim president.

According to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, polls will be held for the positions of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer. Representatives for the Apex Council will also be elected from both the General Body and the Indian Cricketers’ Association.

The AGM is considered a significant event in the board’s calendar, with elections for all major posts set to finalize the leadership structure and ensure smooth functioning of the BCCI in the coming term.

BCCI AGM to Elect Office-Bearers, Form Apex Council

The BCCI’s upcoming AGM will appoint new office-bearers to manage Indian cricket for the next three years under the current Lodha Committee–approved constitution, until the proposed Sports Bill comes into effect.

The meeting will establish the Apex Council, which will include representatives from both the General Body and the players’ association. Governance structures for the IPL and Women’s Premier League will also be finalized.

Two IPL Governing Council members, one representative from the players’ body, and the Women’s Premier League Committee will be elected. The Ombudsman and Ethics Officer will be appointed, while the Standing, Cricket, and Umpires’ Committees will also be constituted.

Top Posts and IPL Council Positions Under Discussion

Ahead of the BCCI AGM, top officials are set to hold a strategic meeting to finalize candidates for key positions. While the roles of Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Treasurer are expected to continue, the President and Vice-President posts remain open for contest.

The presidential race is wide open, with a former player and a cricket administrator being considered. Current Vice-President Rajeev Shukla is a strong contender, with discussions ongoing about whether he will remain in his current role, move up to President, or take charge as IPL Chairman.

In the IPL Governing Council, former BCCI treasurer Anirudh Choudhury could make a return, while Avishek Dalmiya from Bengal, an existing council member, is also in the running. Final selections will be determined during the leadership deliberations before the AGM.
