The Indian Premier League (IPL) and Pakistan Super League (PSL) will continue without disruption despite ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed their stance on the future of their respective T20 tournaments.
In response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, the Indian Armed Forces launched precision airstrikes under "Operation Sindoor." The operation targeted nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK). It escalated border tensions between the two countries.
IPL to Continue as Scheduled Despite India-Pakistan Tensions
The Indian Premier League 2025 season will continue without any interruptions despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions. According to a report by ANI, a BCCI official confirmed that the current situation will not impact the league's schedule, and all matches will proceed as planned.
Over the years, the IPL has faced numerous challenges, including rescheduling and changes in venues due to various issues. However, the tournament has never been called off entirely, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When Was the Last Time the Indian Premier League Was Postponed?
The IPL has faced several disruptions throughout its history due to various circumstances. In 2009, the tournament was held in South Africa for the first time as security resources in India were occupied with the Lok Sabha Elections.
The first phase of the IPL 2014 was played in the UAE from April 16 to April 30 due to the elections in India, before returning to India in May. In 2020, the IPL was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, shifting the window from March to September and moving the tournament to the UAE.
The 2021 season started in India but was postponed and moved to the UAE due to worsening COVID-19 conditions. In 2022, the tournament returned to India, but it was limited to four venues—Mumbai, Pune, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad. It was only in 2023 that the IPL returned to its usual format.
Pakistan Cricket Board Confirms PSL 2025 Will Go Ahead as Planned
The Pakistan Cricket Board has officially announced that the Pakistan Super League will proceed as scheduled. In a statement published on its website, the board confirmed that Islamabad United will face Quetta Gladiators later today at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
"The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that HBL Pakistan Super League X will continue as planned with Islamabad United set to take on Quetta Gladiators later today at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium," PCB announced in a media release on its website.
"Tonight's match sees the return of HBL PSL to Rawalpindi for four matches on 7, 8, 9, and 10 May. Thereafter, the final group stage match is scheduled in Multan on 11 May."
"The Qualifier is set to take place in Rawalpindi on 13 May, while both Eliminators (1 and 2) and the Final of the marquee event are to take place on 14, 16, and 18 May, respectively, at the Gaddafi Stadium."
