Women’s T20 Challenge 2022: All The Games To Be Played In Pune

It was reported earlier that Lucknow might host this edition of the Women’s T20 Challenge. But the BCCI on Tuesday confirmed that the tournament will be played in Pune.

There will be a total of 4 games, like in previous seasons. This includes the final. The first game will be played on 23rd May at 7:30 PM in Pune. The 2nd match will be an afternoon affair and will start at 3:30 PM. The game will be played on 24th May. There will be a break of one day as the third game will be played on 26th May. The final will be played on 28th May.

The BCCI first started this tournament in 2018 with just two teams and a one-off match. In 2019, BCCI introduced one new team where each side played the other once and the top two sides progressed to the finals.

In 2020, the tournament was held in the UAE, but it could not be held last year as it clashed with India’s Tour of Australia.

This tournament has been seen as a predecessor to women’s IPL. There have been several indications by BCCI that a full-fledged WIPL will be in place from next year onwards with 5-6 teams competing in the league.

But as of today, as it stands, three teams will compete in the tournament in 2022. The three teams are yet to be announced.
It remains to be seen how many foreign cricketers make themselves available for the tournament.
