The next edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is set for its fourth season in early 2027. The WPL has now become one of the biggest platforms in women’s cricket, giving players valuable exposure and opportunities to perform at the highest level.

Well, the tournament will once again bring together India’s top women cricketers along with several international stars on the same stage as the schedule for the next season leaked by Cricbuzz. Earlier, WPL 2027 auction date revealed as BCCI set to introduce new stadium.

WPL 2027 set to begin on January 14

As reported by Cricbuzz, the Women’s Premier League 2027 is set to take place from January 14 to February 7. More details about the venues and schedule for WPL 2027 are expected to be announced officially by the BCCI in the coming days.

The fifth season will be played from January 14 to February 7, 2027. The tournament will be held before the inaugural ICC Women’s Champions Trophy, which has been shifted from Sri Lanka to India.

WPL retention deadline set for September 28, auction to take place in Kochi

It is also being said that the player retention deadline has been set for September 28. The five franchises will decide which players they want to keep as they start building their squads for the upcoming WPL 2027 season.

On the other hand, the WPL 2027 Player Auction is reportedly scheduled for October 28. The auction will be held at the Grand Hyatt Kochi, where teams will look to fill the gaps in their squads. Amid this, RCB star names Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma among toughest batters to bowl against.

Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium and Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara are currently in line to host WPL 2027 matches. Both venues are also expected to host ICC Women’s Champions Trophy games. Varanasi could also be added as a third venue if its stadium is ready on time.

RCB to enter as defending champions after second title win

Well, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise will enter the 2027 Women’s Premier League as the defending champions after a memorable title win in the 2026 season. RCB beat Delhi Capitals by six wickets in the final in Vadodara to lift their second WPL trophy.

Delhi Capitals put up 203/4 after batting first, but RCB chased down the target with two balls to spare. Smriti Mandhana led the chase with a brilliant 87 off 41 balls, while Georgia Voll scored 79 off 54 balls. RCB had earlier won their first WPL title in 2024.

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians are now the only two teams with two WPL titles each. However, Delhi Capitals have reached the final in all four editions but are still waiting for their first trophy.

Mandhana was also the leading run-getter in the 2026 season with 377 runs. Sophie Devine and Nandani Sharma shared 17 wickets apiece and was the leading wicket-takers.

With the WPL 2027 approaching, all five teams will now start working on their squads. The tentative retention deadline, the auction, and the schedule have already been revealed so the teams can use both stages to make their plans for the WPL 2027 season.
