After the cancellation of the India vs Bangladesh white-ball series, which was scheduled to be held in August, with 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is, the Sri Lanka Cricket dropped a similar proposal to the BCCI to conduct an equivalent series in the same window.

The India vs Bangladesh series was part of the BCCI's original calendar; however, citing the disagreement between the two nations and the current political scenario, both the BCCI and the BCB decided to postpone the series to next year.

BCCI declines India vs Sri Lanka white-ball series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) seems to have been making plans to decline Sri Lanka Cricket's proposal to host an equivalent white-ball series. Reports indicate that BCCI is not looking forward to accepting any such proposal.

As per reports in SportsTak, a source who is associated closely with the developments in the series has ruled it to be improbable and stated, "We will decide about the series, but it looks unlikely."

If they decline SLC's proposal, India's next major white-ball commitment comes in the Asia Cup 2025, which is for now scheduled to start on the 5th of September. Though any decision has been awaiting the Indian government's approval, the UAE is ready to be the contingency host venue for the continental championship.

Sri Lanka had mixed results in the Bangladesh series

Sri Lanka began the new cycle of the ICC World Test Championship, as they played the first Test series against Bangladesh. The series concluded recently after it featured matches across all three formats.

There have been mixed results in the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh series, as it marked the triumph of Sri Lanka in both the Test as well as ODI series. The Test series ended 1-0, while the ODI series saw a 2-1 end in favour of the Lankans.

However, Bangladesh worked wonders when they came back to win the T20I series 2-1, after Sri Lanka began the series with a 7-wicket win.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's return delayed again

The disapproval of the India vs Sri Lanka series would primarily mean that the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be delayed over a period.

The two greats of Indian cricket who have retired from the remaining two formats of the game, Test and T20I cricket, are now left with only the ODI format. However, their return to the field, which was marked to happen in the Bangladesh series, will now be postponed to not any time soon.

Following the end of the Asia Cup 2025, India will go on to host Australia for a three-match ODI series in October and will host South Africa for a similar schedule later in November. The Bangladesh series has been rescheduled to September 2026 for now.

Rohit and Virat might make their comeback for the Men in Blue against Australia later this year.
