BCCI confirms India vs Bangladesh series will be played in September 2026

The India National Cricket Team were all set to tour Bangladesh for a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series in August 2025.

That series would have marked the comeback of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to international cricket, as the duo had retired from Tests and T20Is and were set to play the 50-over matches.

However, the comeback plans of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been derailed because the India tour of Bangladesh 2025 has been rescheduled, and now the series will be played in September 2026.

"The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have mutually agreed to defer the white-ball series, three ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals, between Bangladesh and India in August 2025 to September 2026," the BCCI said in an official statement.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India, in an official statement, said that the decision to postpone the series was made after the discussions between the two boards and taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience.

"This decision has been reached following discussions between the two Boards, taking into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams," BCCI further stated.

"The BCB looks forward to welcoming India in September 2026 for this eagerly anticipated series. Revised dates and fixtures for the tour will be announced in due course."

The Indian government denied permission for the Bangladesh tour

Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India cited international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience for postponement of the series, a News18 journalist revealed that the Indian government denied permission for the Bangladesh tour due to security concerns.

"Amid ongoing turmoil in Bangladesh, @BCCI has announced that Team India’s scheduled tour has been postponed to 2026. Sources indicate that the Government of India had advised against the team’s travel to Bangladesh, citing prevailing security concerns," the News18 journalist wrote on X.

Also, a PTI journalist stated that India will only tour Bangladesh in 2026 after the general elections are conducted in the country and there is no political instability.

"And while it has been deferred to September 2026, India will only tour after Bangladesh conducts its general elections and there is a stable government in place taking care of law and order situation," the PTI journalist wrote on X.

Meanwhile, the top India National Cricket Team players might feature in the Duleep Trophy after the postponement of the Bangladesh tour.
