BCCI Calls For AGM On October 18 To Elect Office-bearers

The election of the office-bearers is the first item on the 26-point agenda for the annual general meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is scheduled for October 18.

Despite the fact that all incumbents are eligible to run for reelection thanks to the Supreme Court’s ratification of constitutional amendments, all signs point to Sourav Ganguly stepping aside for secretary Jay Shah to succeed him as president. 

The AGM will be in Mumbai on October 18, according to a notice Shah sent to all the affiliated entities. The AGM’s location and time are still up in the air.

Women’s IPL Priority For BCCI

While the election will be the focus of attention, agenda X, or the women’s IPL, is more important. This publication was the first to disclose that the BCCI intended to organise the inaugural Women’s IPL, which would include six teams, in March. The BCCI will formally start the process to launch the event after it has been accepted on the AGM floor. 

The establishment of standing committees and cricket committees as specified in the constitution is also listed on the agenda. The current employees can stay in their positions, although the west zone position on the senior selection panel has been empty since February.

The BCCI will probably advertise for the position in the coming days because an interview procedure is required to choose a selector. 

There are also a lot of disgruntled voices within the BCCI over the Chetan Sharma-led men’s senior selection committee. Although there are no plans to replace the entire panel, administrators are not completely ruling out the idea of hiring a more seasoned player to serve as chairman. 

Jay Shah Clear Favourite To Become President

Shah is the clear favourite to become president, making him the youngest president in BCCI history, according to the election of office-holders. It is doubtful that Shah will turn down the chance to lead the BCCI because he is expected to undergo a cooling-off phase following the conclusion of his second term; his next term will start at the AGM. 

All indications are that vice president Rajeev Shulka will remain in that position for another year, but there will probably also be a change in the joint secretary position.  

In such a situation, Shah is anticipated to be replaced as secretary by treasurer Arun Kumar Dhumal. Anirudh Chaudhary, the former treasurer, is qualified to run for office now that his cooling-off period has expired, so he might oppose Dhumal.

Chaudhary would be running for treasurer if not for the secretary position. All indications are that vice president Rajeev Shulka will remain in that position for another year, but there will probably also be a change in the joint secretary position.
