Veteran Indian batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will continue to be part of the top tier in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) 2024-25 central contracts despite stepping away from T20I cricket. Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer is expected to regain his contract after missing out in the 2023-24 cycle.
Rohit, Virat, and Ravindra Jadeja retired from the T20I format following India’s victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Kohli and Sharma, along with Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah, were retained in the top bracket during the 2023-24 central contracts. Rohit, Kohli, and Jadeja will be part of only two formats.
Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli to Retain ₹7 Crore Central Contract
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to retain their A+ central contracts, worth ₹7 crore. The BCCI has decided to maintain its contract status out of respect for its stature in Indian cricket. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer is expected to regain his central contract after losing it in the 2023-24 cycle.

Shreyas Iyer Dropped from Central Contracts Last Year
Shreyas Iyer had a dispute with the selection committee when he refused to play a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai after being dropped from the Indian Test team following the second Test against England. The right-handed batter cited a back injury that prevented him from playing red-ball cricket.
Since then, Shreyas has made a significant comeback in both domestic and international cricket. He played a crucial role in India's victory in the 2025 Champions Trophy, finishing as the team's top run-scorer with 243 runs across five innings at an impressive average of 48.60, including two fifties.
Ishan Kishan Unlikely to Retain Central Contract
Ishan Kishan, who was also dropped from the central contracts alongside Shreyas Iyer, will have to wait longer to regain his spot. The wicketkeeper-batter is unlikely to be included in the upcoming central contract list for the 2024-25 season. Kishan has not represented India in any format since November 2023.
After leaving the South Africa tour mid-way, Kishan missed the entire 2023-24 domestic season. He returned to action in the IPL 2024 season. Despite playing for Jharkhand in all formats during the 2024-25 season, Kishan was only included in the India 'A' squad for a two-match first-class series in Australia.
A source informed Times Now that Kishan still needs to prove himself further before being reinstated to the central contracts, as his efforts haven't been enough to secure his place yet.
"He still has to wait for his return in central contracts. He has worked on sorting out issues but not enough to be given his position back," asource told Times Now.
