A senior BCCI official has reportedly said that the board is yet to decide on Jay Shah's replacement as BCCI secretary. Jay Shah will be vacating his post at the end of this month to take over as the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Earlier this year in August, he was elected unopposed as the new ICC chairman. At 35, Jay Shah also became the youngest to be elected as the chairman of the game's governing body. He will be replacing Greg Barclay as the new boss of ICC. Barclay has been serving in his role since 2020.
Shah also became the fifth Indian to head the ICC. Before him, Jagmohan Dalmiya, Sharad Pawar, N Srinivasan, and Shashank Manohar plied their trade as the ICC chief. While he was appointed as the ICC chair in August this year, he would be taking over the role on December 1.
Before that, he will step down from his post of BCCI secretary. With less than a month remaining before Shah joins the ICC, the BCCI is yet to announce the name of his replacement. A recent media report stated that the current president of DDCA Rohan Jaitley is the front-runner to replace Shah as the new BCCI secretary.
India Today reported that Rohan Jaitley as well as Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel are in contention to replace Shah. The report also claimed that Jaitley is the favorite to become the new BCCI secretary.
However, Times Now has reported that the BCCI has not taken any final decision yet. The news outlet quoted a senior BCCI official as saying that no name has been finalized yet. A final call on the name will be taken after consultation with all stakeholders.
