Former England captain Michael Vaughan has backed the BCCI’s decision to ban Harry Brook from the IPL for the next two seasons after the English batter withdrew from the upcoming Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025), starting on March 22, at the last minute.
Harry Brook, who was signed by Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, decided to skip the tournament for the second year in a row. His unprofessional move forced the BCCI to take stern action against the English sensation, who pulled out of the IPL 2024 as well.

However, at that time, Harry Brook’s grandmother had passed away, and that’s why he opted out of the IPL 2024 despite being signed up for INR 4 crore in the mini-auction. This time, he betrayed Delhi Capitals for personal gain which didn’t sit well with the BCCI.

Meanwhile, Vaughan pointed out that the rules were made clear to all players in advance, and once a player enters the auction, they are expected to honor their commitment. He also noted that franchises plan their squads carefully, so the last-minute withdrawals disrupt their strategies.

Michael Vaughan said on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast, “I think they are right. You put yourself forward. The rules were the rules. They announced them at the end of last year's IPL. Put yourself into the auction, you say yes, and then you pull yourself out for nothing. He's not injured; he just had a feeling that he just didn't want to get over there to play in the IPL. He's going to stay in the UK.”
The cricket expert further suggested that Brook could be appointed England’s white-ball captain in the coming days, so he decided to prioritize national duties over the IPL. Harry Brook had said in a statement, “I want to fully commit to preparing for the upcoming series.”

Well, the former England captain has admitted that England fans would appreciate Brook’s decision, but he doesn’t think the BCCI and IPL made the wrong decision to ban Harry from the tournament for the next two seasons to set their rule straight to the world.
Vaughan signed off by saying, “I get a feeling he's probably going to be the white-ball captain for England down the line, so he just wants to focus his attention on England, which all the England fans would be happy with, but I think the IPL had to bring something in because it does derail the franchises in the piece. I don't think he's been replaced yet.”
Notably, the BCCI has officially informed Brook and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) about the batter’s ban from the IPL for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. Brook made his IPL debut in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad. He played 11 matches and scored 190 runs for the SRH.
However, Harry skipped IPL 2024 and has now pulled out again, closing doors on his IPL return for the next two years.
