BCCI launches major crackdown on age fraud in junior cricket
As reported by Cricblogger, the BCCI has hired an independent agency to verify the records of players competing in the Under-16, Under-19, and Under-23 categories. Earlier, the papers were submitted by players only, but now the agency will independently check every important document to confirm whether the details are correct.
The verification process will include checking Aadhaar cards, birth certificates, and school records. The agency will also contact schools and other authorities that issued these documents to confirm all the details provided are true and genuine and there was no manipulation.
Fake documents could lead to ban; biometric test made mandatory
If the investigation finds any mismatch or fake documents, the player may not be allowed to take part in BCCI age-group competitions. However, before taking any disciplinary action, the board will first send a show-cause notice, giving the player an opportunity to explain the difference found during the verification.
The BCCI has also made biometric verification compulsory for all players in these age-group competitions. The board believes that this additional step will help create a stronger, fairer, and more reliable system for verifying every player's identity.
Another important rule has been introduced for players changing their state associations ahead of the 2026-27 domestic season. Those changing their state association by updating the address on their Aadhaar card must complete the process before September 1.

The board has been trying to make junior cricket fairer for a long time. The former India Under-19 coach Rahul Dravid had introduced the rule that a player can play only one Under-19 World Cup back in 2016, and the board has continued to follow that rule.
