Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Anshul Kamboj is expected to make his Test debut for India in the fourth match of the ongoing series against England, set to begin on Wednesday, July 23, at Old Trafford in Manchester. Notably, Kamboj was not included in the original squad but has been added as injury cover.
India, led by Shubman Gill, is trailing 2-1 in the five-match series. Kamboj was added to the squad after Arshdeep Singh sustained an injury during training and was ruled out of the upcoming match. Akash Deep, who took a 10-wicket haul in India’s win at Edgbaston, remains uncertain for the Manchester Test.
Anshul Kamboj in Line for Test Debut in Fourth Match in England
Anshul Kamboj is in contention to make his Test debut for India in the fourth match against England. The team management will have to pick the third seamer to support Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj in the upcoming match.
Kamboj is competing with Prasidh Krishna for that role. Krishna played in the first two Tests but underperformed, picking up six wickets at a high average of 55.16 and conceding runs at over five per over.
The selectors are considering handing Kamboj a debut cap due to Krishna’s inconsistent performances. Kamboj could become the 318th player to represent India in Test cricket.
MS Dhoni's High Praise for Anshul Kamboj During IPL 2025
Anshul Kamboj has taken 79 wickets in 24 first-class matches at an impressive average of 22.8. The 24-year-old picked up five wickets in two matches for India A in England. Kamboj also showcased his batting skills with a half-century against the England Lions.
He earned high praise from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni during IPL 2025. Dhoni commended his ability to generate seam movement and deceptive pace, noting that the ball tends to hit harder than it appears on the speed gun.
“Kamboj is someone who doesn’t get swing, but he gets some seam movement, the ball hits you harder than the speed gun suggests, he has taken the responsibility, and he is someone who can bowl good yorkers,” Dhoni had said in a post-match interview.

The fast bowler became only the third player to take all 10 wickets in a single innings in the Ranji Trophy, achieving the feat against Kerala at Lahli.
Chennai Super Kings secured his services for ₹3.2 crore after a bidding battle with MI. Under the leadership of MS Dhoni, who returned as captain mid-season, Kamboj featured in eight matches, picking up eight wickets with an economy rate of 8.00.
