Former England spinner Monty Panesar has delivered a blistering review on Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah’s performances in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 between India and England. The five-match Test series ended in a 2-2 draw earlier this week.
Panesar has pointed out how Mohammed Siraj has not only carried India’s attack throughout the five-match Test series in England but also outshone Jasprit Bumrah with his fitness, fire, and sheer hunger.
He also mentioned Siraj bowled over 180 overs in the Test series, while India’s so-called X-factor, Bumrah, could only manage three Tests due to workload management.
Monty Panesar declares Mohammed Siraj the new spearhead of India’s bowling attack
Siraj tirelessly charged in and ended the five-match Test series as the leading wicket-taker with 23 wickets. However, Jasprit Bumrah played only three Tests, but he still impressed with 14 wickets.

The final match at The Oval was a nail-biter, and Siraj’s never-give-up attitude guided India to a dramatic six-run win that helped them to draw the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
Hailing the fiery pacer’s performance in the series, Panesar boldly suggested India build their overseas bowling attack around Siraj, as he is their new bowling spearhead and the game-changer after his relentless pace and stamina made him the heartbeat of their attack on the England tour.
Mohammed Siraj is very important now for Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir: Monty Panesar
Monty Panesar was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times, “Well, it just shows that Mohammed Siraj is the key now. They've got to build an attack around him. And his fitness is very important. Jasprit Bumrah doesn't have the fitness to play the five Test matches. So, he's again, in and out, kind of the guy to come in. But Mohammed Siraj can win the games now.”
He stressed that if Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill want to dominate overseas, it is not Bumrah but Siraj who now holds the key. Monty added, “As Bumrah has the X-factor, Mohamed Siraj is the key to whether they have a series win or not. So, for an overseas series away from India, Mohammed Siraj is very important now for Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill.”

Keep Jasprit Bumrah for overseas Tests, India doesn’t need him at home: Monty Panesar
Meanwhile, Monty also said that the young Indian cricket team might regret not sealing the Test series in England despite having the upper hand for most of the 25 days.
Furthermore, the former England spinner suggested India keep Jasprit Bumrah fresh for overseas Tests, as they have enough firepower to win matches at home without him, but when it comes to tough away tours, his X-factor becomes crucial and he’s truly irreplaceable.
Panesar signed off by saying, “I think it's good if he does play the overseas Test matches, and probably you don't need him for home Test matches. India can beat any team at home probably without him, but for overseas tests, he is the X-factor. They can probably tell him that we no longer need you for home tests. But for the away tests, we definitely do.”
