Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah made a heartwarming gesture by assisting former India player and head coach Anshuman Gaekwad. Jay Shah instructed the Board of Control for Cricket in India to release Rs 1 crore to support Anshuman Gaekwad, who is suffering from blood cancer.

Anshuman Gaekwad played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India. The former right-handed batter made his Test debut against the West Indies in December 1974. He scored 1985 runs in Test cricket at an average of 30.07, including 2 centuries and 10 half-centuries. He hit 201 against Pakistan at Jalandhar in 1982-83.

Jay Shah Instructed BCCI To Release Rs 1 Crore

Anshuman Gaekwad has been receiving blood cancer treatment at King's College Hospital in London for the past year. Jay Shah's decision to provide financial assistance followed numerous appeals from Gaekwad's former Indian teammates.

The BCCI Secretary directed the board to immediately release Rs 1 crore to support Anshuman Gaekwad. Shah also contacted the 71-year-old's family to assess the situation and ensure assistance, as reported by ANI.

"BCCI Secretary Jay Shah instructed BCCI to release Rs 1 crore with immediate effect to provide financial assistance to India’s veteran cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who is battling cancer. Shah also spoke to Gaekwad's family and took stock of the situation and provided assistance: BCCI Apex Council," BCCI's Apex Council said in a media release.

"The board stands by Gaekwad’s family in this hour of crisis and will do whatever is essential for Mr Gaekwad’s quick recovery. The BCCI will continue to monitor Mr Gaekwad’s progress and is confident that he will come out of this phase strongly," the statement further read.

Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar are leading a fund-raising effort for Anshuman Gaekwad. The 1983 World Cup-winning team, including players like Mohinder Amarnath and Ravi Shastri, has decided to contribute three months of their BCCI pension, totaling around Rs 50 lakh, to support Gaekwad’s treatment.

Sad And Very Depressing - Kapil Dev

Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev expressed his sadness over Anshuman Gaekwad's health, emphasizing the importance of support from the cricket community and fans for his recovery. Dev urged everyone to help him in his time of need.

"It is a sad and very depressing," Kapil told Sportstar recently. "I am in pain because I have played alongside Anshu and can't bear to see him in this state. No one should suffer. I know the Board will take care of him. We are not compelling anyone. Any help for Anshu will have to come from your heart."
