Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw have been given the nod by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah to fly out for England on Saturday(July 31), as reported by Cricbuzz.

There were uncertainties around the date of both players as to when they will leave for England from Colombo after three players of India’s white-ball contingent in Sri Lanka – Krunal Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, and K Gowtham – were tested positive for covid-19, and both Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw were among the eight close contacts of Krunal and have been in isolation since Tuesday. But, both have returned negative tests on subsequent testing.

“There were discussions if there needs to be a change in plan after the duo had to be isolated as close contacts of Krunal Pandya. But with the reports coming in negative for COVID-19, the secretary felt it was best to back the request of the team management and send them to UK,” the source said.

The two players were added to the squad after Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Avesh Khan were ruled out of the Test series starting August 4th.

The good news for the Indian Test contingent is that both the batsmen will be flown out on Saturday, however, they won’t be available at least until the start of the second Test at Lord’s on August 12.

Also, to be noted is that both will be travelling under a special ‘Elite player exemption’ rule of the UK government which is for sportspersons entering the UK from Red List countries, such as Sri Lanka. This rule allowed footballers and tennis players to enter the country for the Euro Football tournament and Wimbledon earlier this summer.

“The UK Government created Elite player exemption earlier this summer to help the Indian touring party travel in the first place. The same rule was used for other sports like football and tennis for the Euros and Wimbledon. And now that is being used for the two new players,” an ECB official told Cricbuzz on Friday.
