The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia spoke about the team not receiving the Asia Cup trophy despite the event concluding on September 28. Saikia stated that the matter will be raised during the ICC meeting on November 4 if the trophy is not handed over to them by Monday.
India defeated Pakistan in the summit clash in Dubai. However, the team refused to receive the Asia Cup trophy from PCB chairman and ACC president Mohsin Naqvi during the post-match presentation ceremony. An official removed the silverware from the podium, with no clarification provided about it.
10 Days Ago, We Have Written to the ACC Chairperson - BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia
Devajit Saikia revealed that the board is still waiting for the Asia Cup trophy. He stated that the trophy has yet to reach the BCCI office and confirmed that a formal request was sent to the ACC chairperson around ten days ago.
"After today's victory, our team got the trophy immediately. When our men's team won the Asia Cup in Dubai, the trophy, till date, has not landed in the BCCI office... 10 days ago, we have written to the ACC Chairperson, requesting to hand over the trophy to BCCI at the earliest," Saikia told ANI.
We Will Raise Our Grievance Before the Apex Body - Devajit Saikia
Devajit Saikia noted that the Asia Cup trophy still hasn’t reached the BCCI. He said that the board would wait one more day, and if the trophy isn’t delivered by November 3, they would escalate the issue at the ICC meeting. Saikia said that the ICC would ensure the trophy is handed over to India.
"But till today, we have not received the trophy. We are waiting for another day. If we do not get the trophy by 3 November, a meeting will be held at ICC in Dubai. We will raise our grievance before the apex body of international cricket. I am sure ICC will do justice and help India get the trophy at the earliest," Saikia added.
Team India Stars' Unique Trophy Celebration after Asia Cup 2025 Final
India’s celebrations after their Asia Cup win took an unusual turn, as the team never received the trophy during the post-match presentation in Dubai. India refused to accept the silverware from Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as Pakistan's interior minister amid cross-border tensions between the two nations.
With no trophy handed over, the players improvised on the podium, staging a light-hearted mock celebration. Suryakumar Yadav led the moment by recreating Rohit Sharma’s iconic slow “Ric Flair walk” from the 2024 T20 World Cup final, drawing cheers from his teammates.
India had convincingly defeated Pakistan by five wickets to secure their ninth Asia Cup title. The group posed for photographs and celebrated, even lifting an imaginary trophy to mark the moment.
