India's long-awaited white-ball tour of Bangladesh could finally happen after months of uncertainty. Actually, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are now working together to plan a white-ball series in September.
India had cancelled its Bangladesh tour last year because of diplomatic tensions between the two countries. After that, cricket relations between the BCCI and BCB turned sour.
Later, Bangladesh also pulled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India after Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the IPL 2026 earlier this year by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on the BCCI’s order. Amid this, Shreyas Iyer credits the stand-in coach after India's 3-0 series sweep over Zimbabwe.
India vs Bangladesh white-ball series back on track after months of uncertainty
Now, a fresh update shared by the Times of India suggested that the white-ball series between India and Bangladesh could finally happen in September 2026. However, the series is not confirmed yet, but both the BCB and BCCI are making full preparations so that everything is ready if they get approval from the Indian government for the Bangladesh tour.
If the clearance comes on time, India could travel to Bangladesh in the first half of September for the white-ball series. The BCCI is reportedly planning to postpone India's three-match T20I series against Afghanistan to make the Bangladesh tour possible if they get the green signal from the government.
The Afghanistan series was supposed to be held in Delhi from September 13, but it could now be shifted to another date to create space for the Bangladesh tour. Amid this, India legend urges selectors to fast-track Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for the 2027 World Cup.
Bangladesh keeps stadiums ready for India tour
Interestingly, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has kept all its stadiums free from September 1, keeping in mind the possible India tour. The board has also prepared different schedule options so that the BCCI can choose the one that suits the India national cricket team best.
India is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series, which will end on August 27. If the Afghanistan T20I series is postponed, India will have a two-week gap in September. That window can be used to play the white-ball series in Bangladesh.
The BCB has shown flexibility over the schedule. Its first choice is to organise three T20Is at one venue and three ODIs at another. Dhaka and Chattogram have almost been finalised for the matches. Even both the BCCI and BCB are also open to playing only either ODIs or T20Is if this situation comes.
ICC meeting give fresh hope to India vs Bangladesh series
Officials from the BCCI and BCB reportedly discussed the possible tour during the recent ICC meetings in London. One of the main topics was India's commitment to the Afghanistan series and how both tours could fit into the international calendar.
Even though both boards are making plans, the tour can only happen after getting permission from the Indian government. The BCCI had already informed the national selectors about the Afghanistan series, but the official announcement has been delayed.
Now, reports claimed that preparations for that Afghanistan series have slowed down as the Bangladesh tour has become the main focus. If the BCCI gets approval, it will improve the ties between the two neighbouring cricket nations.
