The cricket advisory Panel of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to conduct the interview process for the national junior selection committee. According to a Sportstar report published on Monday, October 12, the panel, headed by Ashok Malhotra, will interview the candidates on Tuesday at BCCI's headquarters in Mumbai.

According to the media report, there are 15 shortlisted candidates who are expected to attend the interview process. The interview can be conducted both virtually and in person at the BCCI office.

BCCI's cricket advisory panel will conduct the interview process

BCCI has the option to appoint the committee members directly without conducting any interview process. But as the board wants to maintain its professional approach across all its work, the officials have opted for a proper interview process. Malhotra and fellow CAC member Jatin Paranjpe have reportedly been assigned to take over the interview process.

The aim of the appointments and the formation of the national junior selection committee is to strengthen the talent pool from the grassroots level. The members of the committee will be responsible for finding young talent and putting them in the development process. Additionally, the committee will spread awareness across the nation so that the emerging cricketers can stay away from illegal practices.

Ramesh Powar and Praveen Kumar are in the race to become the next chairman of the committee

There are multiple reputed names who are believed to be applying for a role in the committee. According to the media report, Ramesh Powar, Praveen Kumar, Devendra Bundela, Saurasish Lahiri, Ashish Winston Zaidi, Sudip Tyagi, and Nikhil Doru are among the candidates who have submitted their applications to the board. The committee will contain five members.

It was widely speculated that the former India spinner, Ramesh Powa,r could be the next chairman of the national junior selection committee. But there will be some competition as the former Team India fast bowler, Praveen Kumar, has also made himself available for a spot in the committee. As both of the former national team cricketers have prior experience in managerial roles, the advisory panel may find it hard to select one between these two.

In a strong competition, the international career stats can be a decider in choosing the next chairman of the committee. Powar played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India, while Praveen featured in six Tests, 68 ODIs, and 16 T20Is.

The previous group of committee members has vacated the office

The previous group of members of the committee, led by S. Sharath, officially marked their end with their roles on September 17. But they had to be in the office to finish some of their pending work, including the selection of the India U-23 squad for the C.K. Nayudu Trophy. The previous committee also had involvement in the provisional squad selection for the Asia Cup.

Currently, the junior cricketers' performances have been under the observation of the coaching staff, which includes coaches from the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Later, the responsibility will again be on the committee members.
